Greetings in the Matchless name of our Lord Jesus Christ,
Thank you so much for your prayers while I was in El Salvador July 22 through 30. It was a time of great ministry. We started first thing Saturday with a Pastor’s Conference. I started the day by teaching about “Leadership in the Church.” At 3:00, after the Pastor’s Conference was over we met with the pastor of the church we were assigned to. I was assigned to pastor Leonardo from Iglesia Bautista Filadelfia. We got off to a slow start. Our (the team from the U.S.) understanding was that we would preach at our church on Sunday and then teach and take the church members out to do street evangelism Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday through the day and then preach at night.. Pastor Leonardo said his people had to work so we could only have evening services. He also had something else scheduled for Sunday. Before we left he changed his mind and said I could preach Sunday morning.
So we set out to try to find another church for me to work with. But on Saturday evening that was not possible. We continued trying until Monday morning we went out to San Vicente to meet Pastor Uvaldo. It was too late for him to schedule any day time meetings but he wanted the church to get to know me so scheduled a time of teaching on Thursday. Even with such short notice, the people were so excited about the possibility of partnering with Second Baptist in West Frankfort that the building was full.
On Thursday morning we went to the Mayan Ruins in Chalchuapa wher we had the opportunity to take a group picture.
Friday we drove to San Salvador to spend the night before heading home. We were getting ready to go to the coast to eat when one of the team members slipped on the freshly mopped floor and broke his leg. He had surgery that night and he and the team leader caught a flight home on Sunday. He is doing well.
Each trip has something a little extra special about it and for this trip, it was the special bond between the preachers that went. Tim Sadler was the IBSA staff member who put the team together and we really did become a team. There were preachers from the southern part of IL to the northern part, young men and one not so young and from all different backgrounds. But, I feel that I have come away from this with nine friends that I would not have had otherwise.
As always, I want to thank each and every one of you who supports ZMI. It is truly exciting to watch God at work in His world and a blessing to be able to obey His great commission.
In His Love and Service,
Bro. Joe
